Dandy Hybrid Guitars...the story...part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Part Four...Django's guitar

Mario Macferri

The French Musical Instrument maker, Selmer, hired young Mario Macaferri to design guitars......first patents in 1932.

Macaferri pioneered the induced arch soundboard and also the first guitar with a cutaway.  Django's guitars also used "zero fret".

A look at Django's guitar

So it seems puzzling...
The induced arch / tailpiece "Hybrid" was a design that yielded great results for Gypsy Jazz and continues to do so.  Today there are numerous small manufacturers and independant luthiers that build replicas of Django's guitar.  So why has that design configuration not been moved forward by builders for use by folks that play other types of music?  And what happened to "zero fret"?  Hmmm.

Sometimes great ideas just go dormant.  Let's wake it up!
